The best of Banff film fest

Bon Iver
A few nights ago I went up to the University of Calgary to catch ‘The Best of Banff Film Festival”. The show consisted of 5 or 6 adventure/outdoor films shot around the word. The feature film was 46min film about Dominic Gil and his mission is to cycle the 32,000 kilometers from the northern coast of Alaska to the southern tip of South America, on a tandem bike, picking up random strangers on the way. It was amazing to see and almost made me want to take 2 years off to do something the same… but maybe not.
I was more blown away by a different film that night. I am not a big ski video person, I would much rather be out in the white stuff than sitting on the couch watching people ski through it. The film Signatures: Canvas of Snow was no different, however it was by far the best cut and edited ski movie I have seen. It focuses on Skiing, snowboarding and noboarding, in Japan. In Japan there is a cultural connection to the different signatures of terrestrial home – a sense that the rhythm of fall, winter, spring and summer influences the rhythm of the person, their energy, their riding style and the lines they choose. This special edit features skiers, snowboarders, a photographer and a noboarder who are each in tune with this connection to winter and the environment they ride in.
The only clip I of the film I could find was this one so have a gander and if you can check out the whole film.
I also fell in love with the song that accompanied the film. Bon Iver’s Skinny love. Listen to it here.
