Oh and this is a redesign of the SpeedTheory shorts that I had a crack at.  The Kit right now is a bit to black for my liking and it needed a bit more of a ‘Tour’ feel.  I’m going to have a go at the jersey next and see what I can come up with.  Comments and suggestions welcome.

Its sad to see that ride go, its been with me for a good 10+ years, but i dont think it would see the dirt trails with me in the saddle anymore, so off it went to a new home. I am currently working at Earl Grey Golf Course and will be there until the season ends or I manged to find another job downtown.  I haven’t been very motivated about getting a desk job downtown, the nice summer weather and the great hours (6am – 2pm) allowed me to bike up a storm and get a nice farmers tan.  Now that those ‘nice days’ are gone (for those of you who didn’t know it freaking snowed in twice this week), and my tan is fading I am starting to get my resume out on the streets.  I have had a couple of interviews but nothing has developed into a full time position yet.  The architecture industry is still in the slump of the recession but i think things are starting to pick up… Fingers crossed

My evenings are spend up at school.  I am at MRU (formerly known as MRC) three nights a week for the next few months. I manged to snag a bike locker at the school so I am able to get a few more km’s in the saddle commuting to and from class.  Today was a bit sketchy because of the snow and ice but i am enjoying ripping around at night on my Mountain bike.  However I do need to get a some stronger lights on my bike as I have almost been hit, and in turn, flipped a few birds at drivers for cutting me off.  I don’t think people expect a cyclist to be riding on the roads in -10 at 6am or 9pm.

I have been spending a lot of time sitting on machinery at the golf course which has allowed me to catch up with some good music.  The day seems to go by a lot faster with some good tunes pumping in my ears.  Greg has hooked me up with some sweet Essential Mixes and they just keep getting better.  If you like your House/Trance/Dance i suggest you check out some Funkagenda and some Gui Barrato.  Funkagenda did a remix of one of my all time favorite songs – Laurent Garnier – The Man With The Red Face – and i feel in love with it all over again.  It gets me jumping every time i hear it.  So check out this little didy I have cranked at least once a day.  I couldnt find the mp3 so you will have to listen to the youtube version.

If you like the Funkagenda mix you should also check out the new one from Deadmau5. Its called Faxing Berlin… it takes a while to get into the thick of things (usual for Deadmau5 I think) but its a wicked song.  check it

In other bike news, i have decided that my next big bike purchase is going to be a cross bike for sure.  I have been snooping around Dave’s Flicker page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/10861308@N05/sets/) and get excited about racing cross.  I know the season is almost over but i can always dream of next year. I would like to think that with my running background, my crit experience, and my triathlon dismout and mount experience I would be somewhat ‘good’ at the sport….. only one way to find out though.

I also was introduced to Grand Analog this past weekend and thought i would pass along another session of beats.  This one doen’t really follow the genre of the previous one but its just as sick.  Doug told me about Grand Analog, so if you like this type of music you should check out his show on CJSW Sunday nights at 8pm – 9pm.  He really puts in some solid time to find some wicked cool music and the show is really worth the listen.  And he loves if you call in and comment on the music.

And as for an explanation on why i was so damn slow… i don’t have one.  This year has been the worst year for cycling results for me in a long time….. but it has still been fun .  This past weekend was the Tour de Bowness and for those of you who heard or saw my results…. um… ya… i am fat this year.  I am going to consider this the start of my training for next year, and hopefully I wont make such a fool of my self.  Laters.

This weekend is the Tour De Bowness.  Its going to hurt… I’m not going to lie.  Last year I managed to place 3rd overall in the Crit (always my fav), and then 2nd overall in the Omnium (just luck I guess).  It was a sucsessfull weekend…. this year is going to be a different story.

After I get my ass kicked at the Tour de Bowness its the Jason Lapierre Memorial race weekend put on by SpeedTheory.  I put together these posters for the race, let me know what you think and if you’re around Calgary you should print one off and post it at your local bike shop.  This is going to be a great weekend with some excellent roads to rip down.

I only manage to get a few pictures of people racing around here (mostly because I am racing right after or before).  I have come across some amazing pictures in the past few weeks via Cycling Tips Blog, my own searching, and a few random clicks of the mouse.  I have tried to save my favorite pictures in order to post them here for you guys & gals to view.  I managed to rack up quite a number of images… way to many to post,  so… this might be the first of many post that highlight what I think are Great Cycling Pictures.

First up the great black and white stuff I love.

Tom Tveitan Photography (http://tomtveitanfoto.blogspot.com/).  I came across these pictures via the Cycling Tips Blog and though the black ones of Emma Johansson were absolutely amazing.  Emma Johansson is a very accomplished cyclist from Sweden that currently races on both the Red Sun Cycling Team and Härnösand CK. She was a silver medalist at the last Olympic Games, 1st overall in Trophee d´Or (french), 4th place at the World Championship and 6st at the UCI ranking…. not that shabby at all. Next is the pro portraits of the pros via Timm Kolln – http://www.timmkoelln.com/. I also found this stuff via Cycling Tips Blog (I may be on Wades site to much, but its good stuff).  These pictures were taken after the Giro D’ Italia Immediately after they crossed the finish line. Some amazing stuff… lets hope he has done something similar with the Tour this year.

And finally a few of my own just because I can. These are the best actual ‘riding’ shots that I have taken…. at least i think they are. My cycling photographs library has well over 1000 photos and i didnt really have the patience to look through them all.

I love the feel of black and white pictures… without the colour i feel more forced to focus on what is happening within the picture; the expressions, surroundings, movement all that mumbojumbo.  I have a few more of my photos that i wanted to post but the kinda look like crap parked beside the professional photographers stuff so I’ll keep it to only four images this time.  If i come by any other cool cycling pictures I’ll be sure to post it here.

I went into the race with the hopes of just sticking with the group, the last ride I was on was 2 weeks ago and apart from the odd ride to work this season has been the shits as far as cycling.

Anyways…about 10 min into the race I ended up bridging up to a break of 4 guys. I was by far the weakest rider in the break (they should have all known this from my measly attempt at racing the last time) and was suffering a lot by the time I reached them. I opted to take a break and sit at the back of the pack. I skipped two pulls and then joined in the rotation. After a few cycles of the group I decided that the pace was far to fast for me to keep cycling through and I decided to skip every second one in order to get a bit more rest. I was having trouble pulling up and past the leader and was going to screw up the rotation more and more as my legs tired. This is when the a few guys in the group started yelling at me. “If your not going to help the fucking group drop back to the pack”. There were a more than a few explicits that came from ride 101 that were directed towards me. I was in no way disrupting the rotation of the pack. I let every rider who was swinging back know that I wasn’t pulling through… and WAS NOT GETTING IN THE WAY OF THE ROTATION.

There were two options for me and the pack at this point:
• A – Give into their bitching and complaining and drop back to the pack, or
• B – Stick with them and help pull every second rotation.

As far as the break in concerned you would think that they would rather have me pull through ever second rotation. A pack of 5 is stronger than a pack of 4 even if one rider is only pulling though every second rotation. In my mind I would much rather have someone sitting in and taking a the odd pull that lose a body from the group. I have seen this happen several times in Albera/BC and not once has a rider, including me, got his panties wound up as tight as rider 101 did. They, unfortunately, didn’t see it this way, and continued on telling me to “fuck off and drop back to the group”.

I am there to have fun not to bitch and argue about “who is doing more work” So I dropped back….

As soon as I pulled off Jamie Lamb, a strong rider, also decided to call it quits. So now the break was down to 3 riders. The pack swallowed us up and after about 3 more minutes’ ride 101 was dropped from the break and came back to join us. The break was now down to two riders. As he came back I said, “If you let me take a break or two I could have helped you guys out a bit more” (doesn’t that make sense?). He responded with “If your not helping you shouldn’t be up there, that’s why I am back here”. I hardly believe he opted to drop back… but whatever.

Anyways I finished the rest of the race with the pack and ended up crossing the line with the field. It was a fun race but would have been better without the attitude and egos.

Maybe someone with a little more experience could comment on this (Cyrus, Wade, Kyle, Trev) and give me their two cents. This has to be the most annoyed I have ever been after a race.
